Well, California has done it again. This time the California Supreme Court decreed that a homosexual’s civil rights trump a Christian’s conviction.

The case involved two Christian doctors, who refused to artificially inseminate an unmarried woman, due to their religious convictions. The doctors referred the woman to another doctor, who would be willing to perform the procedure. The woman went to another doctor, and eventually became pregnant and gave birth to a healthy baby. In fact, the procedure worked so well that the patient has had two other babies.

So what is the problem? The patient, Guadalupe Benitez, was not only unmarried, she was a lesbian. She sued the doctors for discriminating against her because of her sexual orientation.

The State of California has a law similar to our Sexual Orientation Non-Discrimination Act (SONDA), which prohibits businesses from discriminating against people because their race, gender, nationality, religious beliefs, or sexual orientation. The original California law was intended to prevent business, such as restaurants, from refusing service to people because of their race. Like New York, the law was expanded to include “sexual orientation.”

The California Supreme Court ruled unanimously that the doctors, in spite of their religious convictions, had no right to refuse their services to Ms. Benitez. The doctors have a Constitutional right to BELIEVE as they choose, but they must ACT according to the dictates of the State.

And this is in America, the land of the free and the brave! It is time for Christians to wake up before we lose all of our freedoms!
