Rev. Jason J. McGuire, Executive Director, New Yorkers for Constitutional Freedoms, had the following reaction to Governor Paterson’s (D-NY) approval of no-fault divorce legislation:

“I am obviously disappointed. I had hoped that Governor Paterson would have kept his word and evaluated every bill that came across his desk in light of its fiscal implications. The fact of the matter is that divorce always places a burden on the state. Making divorces easier to obtain will only add to an already difficult financial situation for the average New York taxpayer.  While I recognize the reality of divorce, and believe that divorce reform is necessary, I do not believe that no-fault divorce is a good thing for New York State finances, or its families.”
