Like most city school districts, the Buffalo City School District is facing a huge deficit. Buffalo schools budgets are running about $42 million in the hole. That is why a recent CNN story was so shocking.

It seems that the teachers’ union contract includes coverage for plastic surgery. Buffalo teachers are taking advantage of the rider. They are having nose jobs, tummy tucks, Botox treatments, facelifts, and other cosmetic tweaks that consumed over $5 million in taxpayer dollars last year alone. It’s really stunning, especially when you realize that this has been going on for forty years!

There is a $42 million deficit in Buffalo schools, while we're paying over $5 million for breast enhancements and other cosmetic surgeries? Really?! Thank a union. It’s a part of the contract. The money would be better invested in education and actually helping Buffalo students get out of the cycle of poverty that so many are living in.
