It seems clear that there is a political revolution stirring In New York as well as the rest of the nation. Something is clearly in the air – a sense that we are going in the wrong direction, and something must be done or it will soon be too late.
I have had the opportunity to speak at a number of Tea Party rallies in New York. They center their protest on economic issues and concern about the loss of freedom that an ever expanding government brings. I believe these are legitimate concerns.
But we must go beyond these two issues if we truly want to redirect our state and nation.
Conservatives must address the moral collapse that has overtaken us – including the sanctity of human life and the sacredness of marriage.
To find the solution to these and other moral problems we must seek a spiritual solution.
Let me be blunt. Unless there is a widespread return to God in America, the Tea Party and all other reform groups will ultimately (sadly) fail.
The bottom line is New York and America needs to return to the God of our Fathers. Our “inalienable rights” are not extended to us by a benevolent government, but a gracious God. If there is no God, then where do these rights come from? The absence of God in our cultural worldview leaves a vacuum that an ever-enlarging government is all too willing to fill. |
